Inducted in 2016Dick Stockton, one of the most accomplished voices in American sports broadcasting, became a household name through his work at CBS, Turner Sports, and Fox Sports, where he was an NFL play-by-play announcer from 1994 until his retirement in 2021. He was the voice behind some of the most memorable moments in sports history, including Carlton Fisk’s dramatic 1975 World Series home run and the legendary Lakers-Celtics battles of the 1980s.
His contributions to sports media earned him numerous accolades, including the Curt Gowdy Electronic Media Award from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and induction into the National Sports Media Association Hall of Fame.
Stockton began his career at WAER, where he served as sports director while earning his political science degree from Syracuse University in 1964. That early experience at WAER set the stage for a remarkable career that spanned more than 55 years and more than 1,500 broadcasts across the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL.
