Innovative ways to de-carbonize existing buildings without disruption or deconstruction

WAER's environmental podcast Deeper Shade of Green with Dr. Chris Bolt

One strategy to make buildings more efficient and reduce their carbon impact is to retrofit heating, hot water and energy systems. But it's not always easy - or even viable - to change out old for new. Two innovative projects that are playing out here in Central New York are taking a new approach: putting modern, fossil fuel-free technology on the outside of buildings.

On this Deeper Shade of Green, we'll learn about the Hydropod and Hydronic Shell, that both utilize heat pumps and other methods of electrification. The designers and proponents say it's a way to solve the retrofit problem, lower costs, make the inhabitants more comfortable - all while having a positive impact on the climate crisis.

Music for episode 10 of Deeper Shade of Green comes from the Syracuse-based Jazz group E.S.P., the song is Reach.
