Weather extremes and their link to climate change are increasingly supported by science. That might be most apparent in the number of record high temperatures being set in the United States and elsewhere - linked to human causes such as burning fossil fuels. The intensity of rainstorms and hurricanes also has a solid causal effect in the data. As knowledge grows - through government-collected information - it starts to answer the key question about climate change: How much are we causing?
On this episode of Deeper Shade of Green, Senior Data Analyst and Research Manager at Climate Central Jennifer Brady tells us what the data tells her. She notes there are increasing numbers of record highs being set, but no record lows; that's concerning. Brady adds weather extremes such as hurricanes, intense rainstorms, and others can be attributed to human activity, while we understand the link to wildfires and droughts a bit less. She also shares he reasons for optimism and advice for people to stay informed.
