The ground-breaking Fenner Wind Farm & how it helped educate about renewable energy

WAER's environmental podcast Deeper Shade of Green with Dr. Chris Bolt

People might have a lot of questions about wind power. How noisy are the huge turbines? How much power do they generate? What's the latest technology? How big a hazard are they for birds? The Fenner Wind Farm was the largest of its kind east of the Mississippi River when it was built in 2001. Since then, the operator ENEL and the Town of Fenner have taken on the mission of educating the public about renewable energy.

On this episode of Deeper Shade of Green, Dave Haarman, General Manager of the Wind Park built by ENEL; Judy Cary, one of the founders of the Fenner Renewable Energy Education (FREE) Center; and Phil Rose, president of the center. They discuss the technology, the FREE center, the role of educating the public and perhaps future renewable energy workforce, and the future of renewables.
