Using geology & wasted energy to heat and cool our homes and businesses

WAER's environmental podcast Deeper Shade of Green with Dr. Chris Bolt

Geothermal energy has been used to heat and cool homes and buildings by tapping the stable temperature of the ground. The science behind it has been expanded to using lake water temperature and even heat created by industrial processes as an energy source. Advocates say technologies based on thermal energy can be the most efficient ways to heat and cool our buildings, and even create new economic models that would reduce grid-overloads and the climate crisis.

On this episode of Deeper Shade of Green, Jay Egg of Egg Geo explains the innovative ways the technology is being used. He's an engineer and consultant on energy projects. Egg describes how thermal energy networks can revolutionize the heating and cooling of buildings, while turning the problem of wasted heat into an asset. Progress in this area certainly faces headwinds of political ideology and infrastructure costs.
