Republican John Sharon is shopping for voters and support in the 128th State Assembly District. He announced his intentions to run at his community based campaign headquarters located in the Valley Shopping Plaza in Syracuse. The private practice Lawyer also formerly worked 35 years for the Onondaga County Law Department where he rose to Senior Deputy County Attorney and handled litigation. Sharon says he’d like to be part of the solution to problems in the State.
“…and I’m willing to work hard for this community to restore New York to the front of the pack, where it belongs. I love this state, I love this community. I make this pledge to this community that I will investigate, educate and advocate for this district on the many matters before us and I will give it everything I’ve got.”
The 128th Assembly District covers the Towns of Salina, Dewitt and Onondaga. The District also contains a portion of the City of Syracuse where Sharon says violent crimes are a big concern. He feels the district’s current representative, Democrat Sam Roberts has not taken a stand.
“For example, with the 22 murders, how can you have 22 murders and not have anything to say about it. Ya know? And again, I’m not expecting that he can say I can solve that or I have all the answers.”
Sharon explains that he’s already considering to approach the problem by having discussions with local law enforcement and State Police to strategize. A friend of Sharon’s is Melody Holmes of Syracuse. She feels Roberts is visible but hasn’t done enough in the city.
“Just take a minute, step outside your front door. What’s changed since he’s (Roberts) been in office? Can you name two things? I’m not asking for five or ten. We need somebody who’ll be a part of the leadership. Somebody who’ll be part of the leadership. Somebody who’ll get in there and get things done.”
Sharon chose his headquarters in Valley Plaza because he wanted a place where the community is welcome to interact and share their concerns. Assemblyman Robert's website says he secured a $116,000 grant for local law enforcement to combat crime. He’s also supported legislation to increase protections for victims of domestic violence.
