Veteran sports broadcaster Ian Eagle '90 was inducted into the WAER Hall of Fame on Friday August 16, 2013 at the Joseph I Lubin House in Manhattan, NY.
Eagle is most notably known as the lead play-by-play announcer for the Brooklyn Nets on the YES network for the past 18 seasons. His work on YES earned him a New York Emmy for play-by-play earlier this year. In addition to his Nets duties, Eagle also broadcasts NFL football, NCAA basketball and Tennis for CBS Sports.
Ian graduated Syracuse University in 1990 where he honed his sports broadcast skills covering SU football, basketball and lacrosse for WAER.
The August 16 event was attended by family, close friends, colleagues and SU alumni. Those roasting Ian on the evening included YES color commentator Tim Capstraw, WFAN's Rich Ackerman and famed NBA analyst Bill Raftery who entertained the crowd of 90 with colorful stories from his association with Ian Eagle. WAER Development Director Mary Evans says, "Ian was a natural choice for this year's Hall of Fame induction. His dedication to his career and ongoing support for WAER and its students puts him in a unique category of WAER alumni." In addition to his many career accomplishments, Ian sponosrs a sports broadcast camp for youth interested in broadcast careers.
