Syracuse football (4-4, 2-2) shut out Wake Forest (4-5, 2-4) in the Carrier Dome 13-0. The Orange defense allowed no points just two weekends after it let Georgia Tech put 56 on the board down in Atlanta.
Both offenses started slow in the first half putting up two zeroes at the intermission. The Orange and Demon Deacons combined for 14 punts and zero 3rd down conversions in the first half.
Syracuse quarterback, Terrel Hunt, credited the defense for the win, “Defense made it easier on us. They kept getting us the ball. Best game of ACC season for sure.”
The SU defense caught a break when the Demon Deacons lost stud wide receiver Michael Campanaro early in the game after the senior suffered a broken collarbone in the second quarter. Campanaro had 67 receptions for 803 yards and six touchdowns on the year before the injury.
The Orange held a Campanaro-less passing attack to 173 yards, while the SU front seven also held Wake Forest to only 40 yards on the ground and Syracuse Head Coach Scott Shafer rewarded defense feel special after the game, “We have the game ball to the defense.”

Offensively, the Syracuse run game came alive as the orange gained 183 yards on 45 carries. While Terrel Hunt scored a rushing touchdown to put Syracuse up 7-0, the sophomore has still not thrown a touchdown in ACC play. Syracuse Wide Receiver, Jarrod West, actually tossed a touchdown to freshman, Brisly Estime, to put the Orange up 13-0 on a reverse trick play.
Syracuse looks to improve to above .500 for the first time this season with a victory at Maryland next Saturday. WAER’s coverage begins at 3pm with Countdown to Kickoff and game kicks off at 3:30.
