Syracuse University’s football team will get to end their season in Orlando Florida. The Orange has been chosen to play in the Camping World Bowl against West Virginia December 28th. SU fought to a 9-3 record, 6-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Head Coach Dino Babers notes the opponent has some history with SU and appreciates the respect given the Orange by the selectin.
“I think it’s cool that we’re playing an old rival and I think our fan base will be fired up about that. I do appreciate the slotting of it because that’s where the second team in the ACC goes and this team earned that.”
Babers adds that he’s excited for players that have been on the team 4 or 5 years to be going to a bowl game. He calls the game a matchup of similar squads, both teams have dynamic quarterbacks and underrated defenses. He says special teams might give SU an edge.
Quarterback Eric Dungey knows both sides of the ball will need to perform for SU to beat the Mountaineers.
"They have one of the most prolific offenses…. They’re going to be putting up points and our job is to do the same thing. But I’ve got a lot of faith in our defense. We’ve got a lot of young guys that have come along this season. … I’m really excited for how that plays out."
Dungey helped SU end it's regular season with a 42-21 win last Saturday.
The Camping World Bowl begins at 5:15 pm on December 28th and will be broadcast by ESPN. Tickets and other travel information are available at www.Cuse.com/CampingWorld.
The Orange finished the pre-bowl game season as the 17th ranked team by the Associated press. That makes SU the second highest ranked team in the ACC behind Clemson at #2.
Syracuse’s last bowl game appearance was in 2013 when the orange beat Minnesota. The orange have an overall bowl record of 15-9-1, winning 5 of six bowl games since 2000.
