The Orange Hopes to Maintain Momentum When Facing Northeastern Huskies on Wednesday

Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball (5-2) is looking to continue its streak when facing off against Northeastern Huskies (4-4) on Wednesday following Syracuse’s 63-55 win over Cornell earlier this week. This is the first time the teams will face each other since the 2007-2008 season.

In its last game, SU struggled offensively for a bit but pulled ahead in the second half. Tyus Battle led the Orange in scoring with 26 points in what was dubbed Battle of the Boeheims, pitting SU's Buddy Boeheim aainst his brother jimmy on the Cornell squad.

But it was Battle bringing his average points per game up to 19.1. Battle is followed by Oshae Brisset who averages 15.3 points per game and leads the Orange in rebounds at 7.6 per game.

Center Paschal Chukwu suffered a groin injury in the Colgate game this past November, and his fellow teammates said it’s been affecting his gameplay since. Coach Boeheim has also expressed frustrations with Chukwu’s performance.

“He’s trying, but he’s not accomplishing anything.” Boeheim adds, “he’s not really a factor on either end of the court right now.”

Beyond Chukwu, Boeheim expressed some dissatisfaction with the team as a whole, saying the players were out of sync and weren’t rebounding effectively enough.

On the Huskies’ side, Northeastern’s Jordan Roland leads the team in scoring with an average of 15.1 points per game. The former Westhill High School standout helped pull his team ahead in the second half of its last game, an 81-67 win against Eastern  Michigan Eagles (4-5). Coming back from a 14-point deficit in the first half, the Huskies hit a hot streak early in the second and finished the game shooting 56.3 percent from the field.

The Huskies’ roster is largely unchanged from last year and features returning players like senior guard Vasa Pusica, who averaged a team-leading 17.9 points and 5.1 assists per game last season. Northeastern University is currently defending the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association co-champion title after a 23-10 season last year.

The game is scheduled to tip off at 7pm in the Carrier Dome.
