Syracuse a Massive Underdog vs. No. 1 Clemson

@Evan_Weston

The road will not get any easier this week for a reeling Syracuse (1-4) squad that will head to Clemson, South Carolina to face the top ranked team in the nation.

  To put things lightly, Clemson has been an absolute juggernaut to start the season. The quarterback for the undefeated Tigers, Trever Lawrence, is expected to be the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft this spring, and experts are calling him the greatest quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck. Not to mention Clemson also has the top two Heisman favorites in the same backfield in Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne.

Coming off a 73-7 win over Georgia Tech, it’s obvious that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has his team poised to play in the National Championship for the fifth time in 6 years.

It’s hard not to see the Orange as just the next hopeless speed bump in Clemson’s way towards bigger and better things, however, Syracuse was indeed the last ACC team to hand the Tigers a loss. But that was back in 2017 and for Syracuse - Eric Dungey ain’t walkin’ through that door.

Instead, it will be Rex Culpepper once again for the Orange starting his second game in a row after replacing the injured Tommy DeVito. One question still hanging in the balance is whether or not wide Syracuse’s leading receiver Taj Harris will start on Saturday after he was caught giving the middle finger to a TV camera, in last week's loss to Liberty.

Be sure to tune in to WAER at 88.3 FM at 11:30 for countdown to kick off.

The Orange are currently 46.5 underdogs and won’t even have the benefit of playing the Tigers in a controlled environment, as the Palmetto State has been allowing fans at a reduced capacity. Needless to say, Syracuse will be lucky to survive Death Valley let alone win.

The game is scheduled to kick off at noon EST on Saturday.

The TV broadcast can be found on the ACC Network.
