No. 4 Louisville sweeps Syracuse 100-64, handing ‘Cuse their second straight loss

The Orange gave up the most points all season in their 100-64 to No. 4 Cardinals. Syracuse drops to 9-12 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

Former Syracuse and ACC Co-sixth player of the year, Emily Engstler returned to the Carrier Dome for the first time since transferring.

Engstler struggled with foul trouble and was only on the floor for 23 minutes. Although she struggled to stay on the court, she finished the day with a double-double, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds along with six assists, four blocks and three steals.

The two teams last met on January 13th, at the KFC Yum Center. It was a close game throughout. The Orange led at the end of the third quarter, but Louisville went on a 15-4 run late in the fourth that sealed the victory for the Cardinals for their thirteenth straight win.

But this time around, it was all Louisville. Chelsie Hall put up the first field goal 47 seconds into the game to get things going for the Cardinal offense.

Chrissy Carr put up a field goal for the Orange two minutes in the game to put Syracuse on the board. But Syracuse struggled to find answers for the Louisville offense throughout the game. The Cardinals led 14-4 in the first six minutes of play.

Louisville tallied 15 rebounds and 11 assists and led 30-17 after the first quarter.

All season long the Orange has had trouble rebounding and was outrebounded 55-26. The Cardinals scored 32 points on second chance points.

Syracuse got within single digits a few times throughout the game, but could not keep up inside the paint. The Cardinals finished with 60 points inside the key.

Team captain, Naje Murray scored a team high of 16 points along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Teisha Hyman scored in double digits for the tenth game in a row. She had 10 points and five rebounds.

Syracuse’s bench saw some action on the floor and accounted for 12 points in the loss. Alaina Rice recorded nine points, including a last second three point shot at the end of the game. Julianna Walker also had a three pointer.

On Tuesday, Syracuse will hit the road again to take on Virginia. This game was originally scheduled for Sunday January 16th, but was canceled due to inclement weather in Virginia.

The Cavaliers are still looking for their first conference win. They have lost their last 11 games and have an overall record of 3-17.

Tip off is at 6 p.m. eastern on ACC Network Extra.
