When Syracuse players left the field after a sixth ACC loss, Head Coach Dino Babers was still in charge. This morning, SU announced that Babers has been fired. Tight Ends’ Coach Nunzio Campanile will serve as the interim in the final regular season game against Wake Forest.

SU Athletic Director John Wildhack made the official announcement on Sunday Morning.

“I appreciate everything Dino, his wife Susan, and their family have done over the last eight years for Syracuse Athletics, Syracuse Football, and most importantly, our student-athletes.” Wildhack said of the coach that has captained the Orange since 2016.

The former boss was winless in November in four of his seasons in charge. In fact Babers’ teams only qualified for bowl games twice. During a 10-win 2018 season, and the 2022 campaign, a year the Cuse started 6-0 before finishing 7-6. The Orange were 1-1 in Bowl Games with Babers, with a win against West Virginia and a loss at Yankee Stadium against Minnesota.

Babers finishes his tenure with the Orange with a 41-55 record. The former Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green Head Coach final contest in charge of the Cuse took another hybrid approach. Converted quarterback Dan Villari was the only player to throw a pass for positive yardage.

“It was cool, nothing I’m not used to…It was fun.” Villari said of his 14/14 passing performance.

The tight end’s longest pass of the day was a 12 yard completion to wide receiver Damien Alford.
