The Orange lost its sixth straight game 4-1 Friday against Boston University.

Both teams played simple hockey early on in the first period. Syracuse had the only shot on goal through the first five minutes despite having an early powerplay opportunity.

The Orange continued pressuring the Terriers and were rewarded with a goal at the 13:26 minute mark in the first.

Charli Kettyle scored from the slot from Tatum White. Kettyle found a soft spot in the BU defense and buried a one timer through the five hole of the Boston University goalie.

Coach Britni Smith said Kettyle plays a large role for this Orange team.

“She is someone that leads our team in a number of ways, and it is great that she is finding the score sheet,” Smith said.

Allie Kelley played her part in keeping BU scoreless through one with a pad save on a partial breakaway following a defensive zone turnover.

The score held throughout the rest of the period, despite Syracuse having two more opportunities on the power play.

BU responded to start the second period and Syracuse gave the Terriers two powerplays early in the second period.

Kelley stood tall however, and the Orange kept a lead into the media timeout with BU starting to dominate play.

Boston University broke through with about 3:30 left in the second period. Clara Yuhn scored a powerplay goal for the Terriers.

Yuhn scored on a one timer similar to the Kettyle goal in the first to tie the game 1-1.

BU wasn’t done for the period and Lola Reid scored with under two minutes left in the period.

Luisa Welcke tried a wrap-around that forced a pad save from Kelley. The rebound went right to Reid who gave the Terriers its first lead of the game.

The Orange needed to do a better job responding to goals Smith said.

“A couple goals together, that’s been a little bit of a theme for us, allowing teams to score in clusters, so that’s something that we’ve been talking about and focusing on is how we can have that next shift mentality,” Smith said.

The Orange went into the locker room trailing 2-1 after forty minutes.

BU continued to pressure the Orange and scored a third goal two minutes into the third period.

Lola scored on another rebound this time standing all alone in the right circle and firing it into an open net.

Later in the third, BU scored the final goal of the game.

Maeve Kelly got the puck at the blue line and sent a wrist shot high to the blocker side of Kelley to give the Terriers a 4-1 lead.

The Orange found chances later in the period, but couldn’t find a way to put it in the net. Callie Shanahan made 27 saves in the win including a right pad save shorthanded late in the third to seal the 4-1 scoreline for BU.

Despite the losing streak, Syracuse continues to battle and try to stay positive.

“Nobody’s worried, there’s no panic in our locker room, we’re excited to be able to continue to find our game,” said Smith.

The Orange hosts BU again Saturday at Tennity Ice Pavilion at 3 p.m.
