Syracuse lost Saturday afternoon to finish 0-2 on the weekend against Penn State. The Orange fell 4-0 in the second game versus the Nittany Lions.

The Orange were unable to convert offensively all weekend long. Penn State outscored Syracuse 5-0 over the course of the two games.

Allie Kelley was the highlight for the Orange on the weekend. She became the NCAA’s all-time saves leader with her 4,168 career save.

The Nittany Lions started the scoring shorthanded Saturday as Grace Outwater forced a turnover on her own blue line and then had a breakaway on Kelley. She ripped a shot past Kelley to open the scoring.

Penn State added two more goals in the second period. Tessa Janecke and Nicole Hall scored for the team to make the lead 3-0.

Grace Outwater added her second of the game in the third period to make it 4-0.

Smith said the team has maintained its morale throughout the year.

“Our culture has been something that has been a strength of ours this season. So that’s something that we have to lean into now,” Smith said.

Coach Britni Smith took out Kelley after the fourth goal. She replaced her with Bella Gould.

Smith said the decision was to help give Gould some ice time and give Kelley a little rest after playing almost every game all season.

“I thought Bella came in and did a great job. She didn’t face a ton of shots, but it’s hard to come in cold like that,” Smith said.
