Syracuse (2-1, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) took down Colgate (0-3, 0-0 Patriot League) 66-24 inside the Dome on Friday night, and the SU offense showed up in a big way.

It was Orange domination from the get-go, with a few key standout performances. First, let’s start with quarterback Steve Angeli. The redshirt junior threw for over 400 yards for the second consecutive game and totaled six touchdowns, including one on the ground.

But perhaps the most impressive part of Angeli’s performance was his control and decision-making. The Notre Dame transfer finished the game without a turnover for the first time this season. He also spread the ball around a lot, connecting with 12 different receivers, the most in any of SU’s first three games.
“We just have great guys everywhere,” said Angeli after the game. “The key to a good offense is a balanced attack."
So, who exactly did Angeli find? Leading the group was wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr, who hauled in six receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Another offensive standout was Darien Williams, a Syracuse native who went to Christian Brothers Academy just down the road from SU’s campus. The freshman recorded three catches for over 70 yards and a touchdown, all career highs.
“They balled out,” said Darrell Gill Jr. about the young receivers. “I didn’t even need to say anything to them.”
Redshirt freshman Jaylan Hornsby also had a night to remember, with four receptions for 56 yards, both personal bests.
While the offense exploded, there were also positives on the defensive side, headlined by two-way freshman Demetres Samuel Jr. The former four-star recruit picked up the first interception of his collegiate career.
“There’s no way he threw the ball,” said Samuel Jr. “And I just went and got it.”
The 17-year-old also caught his first collegiate pass (a 10-yard gain) and returned his first punt. Calling Samuel Jr. a jack-of-all-trades might even be an understatement.

The 24 points that Colgate scored marked their highest total against Syracuse since 1981, but the SU offense had the game well under control from the opening whistle. That’s the main takeaway from this matchup.
Next up, Syracuse faces a tough challenge on the road against 12th-ranked Clemson in South Carolina. It’s SU’s first official road game of the season, as their Week 1 matchup against No. 24 Tennessee was played at a neutral site in Atlanta. The Orange haven’t beaten the Tigers since 2018.
