The last time No. 8 Syracuse men’s lacrosse (8-2, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) played in the JMA Wireless Dome, it was in its 11-9 win over top-ranked Maryland.
For the first time in 37 days, SU returned back to the JMA Wireless Dome after a six-game road trip for its matchup with No. 13 Georgetown (3-4, 0-0 Big East Conference). Syracuse head coach Gary Gait and his squad have been looking forward to this day for a very long time.
“Oh it’s nice to be back in the Dome. Well we know the weather is going to be perfect. 70 and sunny. We’ll have a great crowd, excited fans, and the guys are really looking forward to being back home.”
But things did not get off to such a hot start. Early on into the first quarter, the Orange found themselves in trouble.

The first frame became a tale of back and forth blows between the Orange and Hoyas. Syracuse though was able to rebound and take command heading into the second quarter with a 4-3 lead.
Like it has been all season, SU captain Joey Spallina would take over and guide his team. Entering today’s matchup, the attackman had 288 points all-time, the second-most in program history. The senior needed just 20 more points to be the king of the castle and surpass Mikey Powell’s record.
The attackman was doing it all over the stat sheet. Spallina had a pair of goals and a team-high four assists, marking his fifth game this season with five or more points.

The senior did not fail to get everyone involved today, but when he had the ball in his stick, it was go time.
“I think the way I dodge is a little different from most. I like to get into people,” Spallina said. “You have to get to the front of the goal to score and I just kind of dove across and got air.”
Perfect. No notes.

Spallina’s six points were a big factor in the victory over No. 13 Georgetown. The Hoyas defense averages 12 saves a game through six contests so far this year, which ranks inside the top-25 in the country. The victory marked the sixth ranked win of the year for SU.
The count to becoming the all-time program leader in points sits at 14 after the captain's dominant day in the Dome.
No. 8 Syracuse men’s lacrosse can extend its five game win streak with its matchup against No. 6 Duke on Saturday at 2 p.m. The contest marks the beginning of ACC play for SU. The Orange bested the Blue Devils 9-8 in the ACC Championship last season. We’ll have coverage of the rematch starting at 1:30 p.m. with McClurg Remodeling Countdown to Faceoff here on WAER.
