The GOP caucus in the Onondaga County Legislature is calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers to put affordability first in upcoming legislation.

The non-binding resolution put forth by Onondaga County Democratic lawmakers is intended to send a message to county leadership and Congress to "protect neighbors from misconduct."

The slight revisions follow a court order to accommodate 1,600 incarcerated individuals in state prisons outside of the county. But Democrats hoped to make more significant changes.

Lawmakers made some budget-neutral changes to to the county executive's proposal earlier in the process, but other amendments pushed by Democrats Tuesday were rejected.

The Ways and Means Committee approved the one-year pause while the proposed closure of the jail works its way through the courts.
