The Onondaga County Legislature’s Republican minority expressed concern about the postponement of nearly $9 million in borrowing to maintain county buildings.
Lawmakers on the facilities committee approved all ten of the bonding requests for improvements ranging from roof replacements and new lighting to major upgrades at county parks.
But the only one to advance to the next committee without explanation from the majority Democrats was a roof replacement at the Board of Elections. Republicans accused Democrats of politicizing what should be routine maintenance items for taxpayer-owned assets.
The caucus pointed out that a resolution meant to establish the Oak Orchard Industrial Sewer District, which it argued is being covered by Micron, was missing from the legislature's last meeting agenda.
“This is about moving our community forward, and we aren’t doing that with these decisions,” said Republican Minority Leader Brian May in a press release. “We are concerned the lack of progress sends the wrong message to residents and Micron.”
The full legislature meets on Tuesday.
