Concerns about the spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19 are growing, as the more contagious version of the virus is beginning to take hold in New York. The state reported 21,000 new cases on Thursday, up more than 40% from the day before, and the highest single day case total since the pandemic began.

The state’s Farm Laborers Wage Board by-passed a legal deadline of December 15th to decide whether farm workers should receive overtime pay after working 40 hours a week. The state’s Department of Labor says it will instead hold more hearings on the issue, beginning in January.

The state ethics commission voted Tuesday to claw back the $5 million that disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo received for a memoir that he wrote about his management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The commission voted 12 to 1 for Cuomo to repay within 30 days the $5 million he was paid by the publisher.
