Nine clinics within the network of the Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York are among those receiving the first grants from the state’s Abortion Providers Support Fund. Governor Kathy Hochul announced today 63 clinics across the state will receive in a share of $10 million in the first round.

The awardees can use the money to expand their operations in anticipation of more people coming to New York for the procedure from states where it is limited or banned. Hochul said this is only just starting to occur.

“We’re at the very beginning of what we believe will be an influx of people in search of women’s healthcare,” Hochul said.

This first phase supports organizations that are currently funded under the Comprehensive Family Planning Program and have provided abortions in the last 12 months. Hochul said the next $15 million will be open to a wider range of programs, including independent clinics.
