Walsh's office to reduce gun violence gets $1.4 million boost

The city of Syracuse will receive $1.48 million as part of the Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative.

The program will be managed by the the Mayor’s Office to Reduce Gun Violence. Syracuse’s program will include street-level intervention by credible neighborhood messengers, social intervention, educational support, job training, workforce support, and crime reduction initiative

Mayor Ben Walsh said in a statement, he is looking forward to working with community partners to ensure kids have resources and a network to reduce their risk of gang affiliation and crime.

The city’s award is part of a $100 million fund to help reduce crimes committed with guns, and other serious violence.
