New York's 40 million pounds of wrapping paper needs sorting

New Yorkers will stuff their recycling bins with some 40 million pounds of wrapping paper, ribbons and bows, according to recycling authorities.

Before tossing it out, the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) has asked residents to sort out anything with a high sheen and put that in the trash. That includes wrapping paper, greeting cards and gift cards that have metallic, glitter or foil surfaces.

The same items made without the high sheen can go in the recycle bins along with cardboard boxes, catalogs, and magazines.

For more specifics, check out the recycling rules at the OCRRA.org website.
