New York U-S Representative Elise Stefanik says she’s ending her bid for governor.  In the meantime, the Republican adds that she’s also not seeking reelection to the House. Her congressional post runs until the end of 2026.

Stefanick released a statement Friday in which she called it a difficult decision.

When Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman entered the race, it made it clear that it would be a heavily contested republican primary.  Stefanik said that while she believes she would have won, that would not be good for the party.

While not giving a definitive reason for pulling out of the race, she cited family, saying her most important job is mom. Stefanik announced her bid for Governor less than two months ago.

Stefanik has been a harsh critic of Governor Kathy Hochul in recent months
