Syracuse faces sharpest gas-price increase in years due to Iran war

Gas prices shot up almost 50 cents-a-gallon on average in the Syracuse area, according to GasBuddy analysts.

Central New York drivers are definitely noticing rising gas prices since the U-S - Israel led war on Iran began. In the Syracuse area, prices at the pump up nearly 50 cents-a-gallon in the past week, and nearly 49-cents higher compared to a month ago, according the GasBuddy.com.

The analysts found the most inexpensive gas in the area Sunday at $2.99-a gallon while the most expensive was $3.69. Some stations offer programs to ease the pain at the pump, including reduced prices on Sundays.

Analysts warn continued military strikes in Iran could push gas prices up another 20- to 50-cents-a-gallon in coming weeks. They say the recent surge is one of the fastest escalations in recent years.

The Syracuse average of $3.41-a-gallon compared to other areas that saw slightly smaller increases: Rochester- $3.39/g, up 34.8 cents per gallon; New York- $3.36/g, up 39.7 cents per gallon; and Scranton at $3.46/g, up 39.1 cents per gallon from last week.
