Gas prices continue to be inflated by high oil costs due to the US war with Iran.

Syracuse drivers are paying more at the pump this week as gas prices continue to climb across the city.

The average price of gasoline in Syracuse rose 10.8 cents in the past week to $3.52 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of about 190 gas stations in the area. The increase meant residents commuting to work, running errands or driving to school were paying noticeably more than they did days earlier.

This week continues a trend of rising prices. Gas in Syracuse is 57.6 cents higher than a month ago and 47.7 cents higher than this time last year, putting additional pressure on household budgets as transportation costs rise.

Drivers across the city were seeing a wide range of prices depending on where they filled up. GasBuddy reported the cheapest station in Syracuse at $3.33 per gallon, while the most expensive gas reached $3.89, a difference of 56 cents for the same amount of fuel.

Fuel prices were rising across the region as well.

  • New York- $3.58/g, up 21.3 cents per gallon from last week's $3.36/g.
  • Scranton- $3.63/g, up 16.7 cents per gallon from last week's $3.46/g.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline is $3.68 per gallon after rising 23.2 cents over the past week, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said rising oil prices tied to tensions in the Middle East and the seasonal switch to summer gasoline were pushing costs higher for drivers.
