Syracuse gas prices continue to rise due to Iran war, worldwide instability

Syracuse drivers might not like what they see outside their windows as they approach local gas stations.

Pain at the pump continued for Syracuse drivers over the past week as gas prices rose another 20-cents-a-gallon. The average of $3.72 for unleaded was 78-cents higher than a month ago, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 190 stations in the area.

Syracuse prices are slightly below the national average of $3.92-a-gallon. Analysts continued to blame the uncertainties in supply due to the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

“It now appears increasingly likely that the national average price of gasoline will reach the $4-per-gallon mark—potentially as early as this week—for the first time since 2022," said GasBuddy Chief Petroleum Analyst Patrick De Haan. "There are few signs of stabilization so far, as global oil prices continue to climb, and early indications suggest consumers may begin to pull back in response to the rapid pace of increases.”

Seasonal factors such as increasing driving demand are also adding to the price hikes.
