The Syracuse City Ballet is ready to put last year’s turmoil behind them and start a new season. It kicks off later this month with two free preview performances at the New York State Fair.
The regular season begins in late September with the first of five performances, including “The Nutcracker” in December.
The organization reached a settlement in June with six dancers fired last year when they went on strike to protest working conditions. Those dancers have since formed a competing troupe called the Central New York Ballet. They recently won a 259-thousand-dollar state grant to create studios and a workspace in the Gere Block Building.
