Saint Joseph’s hospital cut the ribbon today to officially open its new surgical suite.
Chief of Surgery Doctor Syed Zaman (Cy-eed Za-mann) says the new 80-million dollar center will allow them to provide patients the best care possible in areas such as cardiac and orthopedic surgery.
“These programs are not only large in volume, but they also represent the best care and results that are produced. Other programs like pediatric surgery, general surgery, urology, GYN are all outstanding, and the place is just getting busier everyday.”
The finished center gives Saint Joseph’s hospital 15 new operating rooms, which will accommodate 14 (T) thousand patients annually.
Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy says there are multiple benefits to the expansion; patients have better access to state of the art care, and it’s a boost for economic development. The hospital received a 2.5 million dollar grant from the regional economic development council for the project.
“Not only is it great money to open up the surgical suite for the project, it also helps other ways. It has helped with construction. NYSERTA has been actively involved with this and the sustainable aspect of this construction for the suite for this project are incredible. 146 new jobs. Health care today not only is about quality of life and saving lives, it’s also about creating opportunities and economic opportunities.”
The expansion isn’t over at Saint Joe’s; they plan to build a new patient tower by the end of next summer.
