Members of the Not Again SU movement held a brief walk out Thursday where they delivered petitions demanding the resignation of chancellor Kent Syverud and other top administration officials.

There is still unrest among some students who feel current administrators aren’t adequately addressing racism on campus.

"Hey hey!  Ho ho!  Syverud has got to go!" chanted the students as they walked from Hendricks Chapel to the Crouse Hinds building.

These students who didn’t want to be identified say there’s an ongoing pattern of inaction.

“Even though the demands were signed, they have continued to ignore things that are happening on campus and have happened since the demands [were agreed upon].  I feel the resignations are something we need to push for and need to happen, because, as a person of color, our safety is not being valued,” said one student.

Another student told about 100 gathered in front of Hendricks Chapel that the administration could do more.

Students make their way to Crouse Hinds.

The last five plus years, they have shown they are completely incompetent and genuinely disregard the safety of every underrepresented student on this campus.  I know personally…it’s only been four months…I live in a residence hall where students consistently antagonize the black students on my floor and in the hall in general.”

A third unidentified student says Chancellor Syverud failed to follow through on student concerns in 2014 and in 2018.  Now, she’s worried it’ll happen again…

“In the beginning, the first 2 or 3 months, [there are] continuous updates, continuous emails about what’s going on.  Students graduate out, students can’t work on those committees, the committees are dropped.  We feel he’s not making that effort to be continuous or transparent, and these instances continue to happen.”

The Not Again SU students want the chancellor and other administrators to vacate their positions by January 13th, or they say there will be unspecified consequences.
