It’s “Speed Awareness Week.” Expect more police patrols on area roadways between now and Saturday.

Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered more police on the roadways now through September 14 to catch speeders. The aim is to make roads safer and educate drivers.

Last year, during similar campaigns, police wrote over 27,000 speeding tickets and issued more than 80,000 tickets for other traffic violations.

Speed Awareness Week is a statewide traffic safety campaign.
