Syracuse gas prices rise slightly over holiday weekend

Gas prices around Syracuse picked up just a bit this past week despite an uptick in demand for the holiday weekend. Gas Buddy reports a 2.5-cent rise in average prices, while AAA's survey found a 1-cent increase. The average of $3.10 per gallon is about 38 cents lower than a year ago.

The national average from both research agencies is right around $3.00 per gallon. Both analysts expect prices to dip further over the next few weeks as driving demand reduces in the winter months.

Oil prices have also remained low, though experts say tariffs in the new year could reverse the downward trend in gas prices. For now, motorists can expect some relief at the pump for holiday shopping and travel.
