Syracuse drivers are paying an average of $3.16 per gallon, a six-cent increase since last week.

Gas prices are on the rise here in Syracuse and across the nation. Drivers are paying $3.16 per gallon locally, and slightly less elsewhere in the country.

That’s up a full six cents since this time last week, according to the latest AAA report. Oil costs - which account for more than half of what motorists pay at the pump - have hovered around $80 dollars a barrel.

While domestic demand is low, global oil prices are surging as winter blasts force higher use for heating and new U.S. sanctions against Russia’s energy sector drive pump prices higher.
