Central New Yorkers have a chance Saturday, April 12 to sell their guns legally at an event aimed at getting weapons off the streets.

Attorney General Letitia James is teaming up with the New York State Police and the Syracuse Police Department for a gun buyback where owners can turn in firearms, working or non-working, with no questions asked.

James says her office and law enforcement partners want to be part of the solution against gun violence.

"Gun buyback events encourage New Yorkers to turn in firearms to keep our streets and communities safer," James said.

Prepaid gift card amounts range from $750 dollars to $25, depending on the type of weapon:

• $750 per assault rifle

• $250 per handgun

• $75 per rifle or shotgun

• $25 per non-working, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D-printed gun*

* 3D-printed firearms and homemade guns will be $25, regardless of how many are turned in.

Firearms must be transported unloaded in a bag or box in the vehicle’s trunk.

If weapon(s) must be removed from permit(s), a photo ID and corresponding permit must be presented.

The event takes place this Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm at the St. Lucy’s Church Gymnasium on Gifford Street.
