A Central New York Economic Development organization says a number of initiatives in the New York Budget will help the region. CenterState CEO says spending $6 billion to make unemployment insurance solvent, $450 million for Upstate University Hospital emergency room upgrades, and $116 million for Onondaga County water infrastructure expansion are necessary investments. The organization also supports budget measures for affordable housing.

"The 2026 budget from Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature establishes needed investment in the resources and tools that will ensure Syracuse and Central New York can fully meet the historic period of growth happening in our community."

Robert M. Simpson, president of CenterState CEO

CenterState CEO emphasized that these investments are crucial for the economic stability and growth of Central New York. The funding for unemployment insurance will ensure that the system remains solvent and can support residents in times of need. The upgrades to Upstate University Hospital's emergency room will enhance healthcare services, providing better care for the community. Additionally, the expansion of water infrastructure in Onondaga County will improve the quality and reliability of water services.

The organization also highlighted the importance of affordable housing measures included in the budget. These initiatives aim to address the housing needs of residents, ensuring that everyone has access to safe and affordable living conditions.
