State health officials report a 32% decrease in drug overdose deaths, surpassing the national average.

Efforts to combat overdose deaths appear to be paying off in New York. Health leaders say New York saw a 32 % decline in drug overdose deaths compared to 2023.

The Centers for Disease Control say the rest of the nation saw a 27% decline. The New York Health Commissioner credits efforts at the state and local level for the decrease.

Despite the decline, opioids remain a major concern, accounting for 77% of overdose deaths in New York.
