The Onondaga County Department of Health has reported an overdose spike alert for opioids after fake pills laced with fentanyl were sold to unsuspecting customers.

Syracuse drug addiction prevention experts are optimistic about being able to help those struggling with substance abuse under Governor Hochul’s plan to increase spending by $400 million. One of the agencies on the front lines is Prevention Network.

A coalition of Syracuse-area groups marked the occasion of Overdose Awareness Day Tuesday by calling on Governor Hochul to sign a package of bills aimed at preventing overdoses. They include medication-assisted treatment in jails and prisons and decriminalizing syringes.
