Average gas prices in the region have fallen —50 cents cheaper than this time last year—with the lowest prices found in Elmira.

Taking a weekend road trip across Central New York is a whole lot cheaper this time than it was a year ago.

Triple-A Western and Central New York says the average price for a gallon of regular gas is now $3.14. While that’s down three cents from last week, it’s a full 50-cents cheaper than it was this week in 2024.

In Syracuse and Ithaca, it’s $3.05 on average. Rome has the highest rate right now at $3.21, and Elmira is the lowest at $2.99 a gallon.

Prices, in general, are expected to stay relatively low this summer - except when severe weather hits. That, Triple-A says, is the wild card.
