Small and mid-size airports in New York get $40 million for upgrades

Central New York, as seen from the seat back of a Delta Airlines flight. Six airports in the area will use a portion of a $40 million boost from the federal government to help with safety and infrastructure upgrades.

Sixteen airports across New York are sharing a $40 million federal grant aimed at improving infrastructure and safety at smaller to midsize air strips.

Cortland County’s Chase Field and Oswego County’s airport, where they’re in need of snow removal equipment, will get help. That’s part of $8 million going to six rural and mid-size airports in Central New York.

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand serve on the Senate Appropriations Transportation Committee and negotiated for the funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law.
