Central New York will cruise toward triple-digit temperatures beginning Monday, which can pose serious health risks.
The State Department of Health advises that New Yorkers stay inside Monday and Tuesday when it feels like 100 degrees or more outside.
It has also coordinated cooling centers across the region at public libraries, schools, and community centers.
“ We're in regular contact with county emergency managers to ensure these cooling centers are open in every community, now,” assured Governor Kathy Hochul. “If you don't have air conditioning, now is the time to identify a cooling center near you.”
In some cases, the Governor said, people can qualify for a free air conditioner at home.
Eligibility for a free AC requires a resident to have the state’s Essential Plan health insurance and have persistent asthma.
Locate the nearest cooling center on a map and learn other cooling facts through the state health department’s website.
