New York Attorney General Letitia James is hiring a lawyer while facing two subpoenas launched by New York Acting U.S. Attorney John Sarcone, who was appointed by President Trump.

James, a Democrat, hired a California law firm to navigate both subpoenas. The probe follows her office's investigations into the National Rifle Association and President Trump. She won in both cases.

The A.G. told reporters she is just doing her job and considers whether to litigate based on the merits of each case.

In Sarcone’s second subpoena, he has charged James with mortgage fraud. Republicans are cheering both probes. They say she’s politicized her office. She and other Democrats call it political retribution.

When asked by the New York Public News Network to comment on his charges, U.S. Attorney Sarcone's office declined.
