NYS awards $25 million to help farmers protect water quality in record round of funding

IN the past, the Eastern Finger Lakes Coalition used the funding to reduce nutrient runoff and improve water quality in the watershed region.

New York State is awarding a record round of funding to help farmers protect water quality. The $25 million is being split among more than two dozen Soil and Water Conservation Districts, including a combined $5.5 million in Central New York.

This round of grants comes from the Environmental Protection Fund, and, for the first time, the state’s Environmental Bond Act of 2022. Farmers use the money for vegetative buffers along streams, manure management, and conservation cover crops, all to prevent water pollution.
