Classes are back in session at SUNY Morrisville after a 20-year-old non-student man was shot in the neck inside South Hall dorm around 3:45 p.m. Monday, according to the New York State Police.
The victim was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and is expected to survive. Police say no other injuries were reported and there is no ongoing threat to the campus community.
Following the shooting, all Monday classes were canceled and the campus went into full lockdown, later shifting to a full shelter-in-place, and then a partial one.
The college told WAER that the shelter-in-place for all buildings has been lifted, including South and Onondaga halls – the dorms affected by the most recent order – though both remain closed as law enforcement continues processing the scene.
A command post remains active, with State Police investigators, SORT, and K9 units assisting. NYSP say the investigation is still active, with no arrests made.
Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at 315-366-2311.
