Georgia Powell Hudson

Volunteer Journalist

Georgia Hudson is a journalist at Syracuse University pursuing a dual degree in Magazine, News and Digital Journalism and English and Textual Studies with an anticipated graduation in May 2028. As a content creator at WAER, Syracuse's NPR station, she produces digital and radio stories, expanding her media experience beyond her established print journalism background.

Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, Georgia brings professional experience to her role. During her internship with the Hearst-owned San Antonio Express News, she worked on a powerful piece highlighting addiction and mental health challenges within the Texas attorney community, showcasing her ability to tackle complex social issues with sensitivity and depth.

Georgia's leadership capabilities were demonstrated during her two-year tenure as Editor-In-Chief of her high school newspaper, The Chronicle. Managing a staff of over 30 and publishing content for more than 3,000 students, she guided the publication to receive two prestigious Columbia Scholastic Press Association Crown awards and numerous local Best in Show recognitions.

Her technical proficiency includes Adobe InDesign certification obtained in 2023, complementing years of graphic design experience. This combination of editorial leadership and design expertise reflects her comprehensive approach to journalism.

Beyond her journalism work, Georgia has demonstrated commitment to community service and advocacy. As a dedicated participant in Model United Nations, she received recognition for her negotiation skills during her state's largest student-run conference. Her compassion extends to serving as a counselor at a San Antonio grief camp, where she utilized equine therapy to support bereaved families, reflecting her deep concern for adolescent bereavement issues.
