Chase Scanlan, SU Down Holy Cross 15-6

Fans took their seats in the Carrier Dome to watch Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse put on a show, and that is exactly what happened. The Orange completely dominated Holy Cross on Saturday 15-6.

Syracuse was supposed to play Hofstra today, but a positive COVID-19 test in the Pride’s program led to a cancellation. The Crusaders, on the other hand, were supposed to play Army but that also got postponed due to COVID-19 in the Black Knight’s program. Since this was the case, Syracuse and Holy Cross scheduled a contest for today. This is the first time the Orange have matched up with the Crusaders, and SU took full control.

Last week the story on the offense was Owen Hiltz. This week, however, it was all about attacker Chase Scanlan. The sophomore had a career-high 7 goals to help the Orange beat the Crusaders. That number doubles his season total in scores.

Scanlan was all over the field. The Irving native was scoring from the left and right side, and on the man advantage. The attacker had four of his goals in the first half alone, and then put up another hat trick in the second half.

“We just wanted him to keep shooting. He has been in a little bit of a slump shooting wise and we were wondering when he would break out of it...he kept shooting and it was good that he did. Especially in the first half where he was helping to keep us in the game," says Head Coach John Desko.

“I was just open most of the time. I’m thankful for my teammates getting me in those spots and if I think I’m open to take a shot, I’m going to take it,” says Chase Scanlan. “I go and have fun regardless of any game. I’m just happy we got the win and continue to prepare every week and do my best.”

Chase Scanlan and the Orange will have a tough test up next. Syracuse heads south to play the number 1 team in the country: the Duke Blue Devils. Game is this Thursday night at 7, and our coverage starts at 6:30 with Countdown to Faceoff.
