Securing a COVID-19 vaccine appointment has been a challenge for many older people, but they might get some extra help. Some seniors are not technologically savvy or don’t have internet access to schedule the competitive appointment.
Association on Aging New York Executive Director Becky Preve is concerned for the vulnerable population.
“There were limited appointments that would become available at the local pharmacies for the 65+ population. You also saw the technology issues. Those two items merged together really showed that we have waiting lists across the state in the thousands.”
Individuals can receive assistance from their local Office of Aging over the phone and get an appointment without the hassle. They’re partnering with Kinney Drugs to book these appointments for upcoming community-based vaccine clinics.
“The takeaway is to know that if you are part of this vulnerable population, you can reach out to your local Office of Aging for vaccine assistance. They will make sure that you get the assistance that you need.”
To be clear, the vaccine appointments at Kinney Drugs pharmacies are still available for those who can get there. County Offices of Aging are just another way for more seniors to get vaccinated and return to a sense of normalcy.
Upcoming clinics will be held in 21 counties, including Onondaga, Oneida, Oswego, Madison and Cortland.
