Syracuse Officially in ACC

It was a great day in New York City as Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame officially become members of the ACC on Wednesday. And the theme of the day was excitement for the future. “We’re in a great position for the short term and the long term.” Said ACC commissioner John Swofford. “We have a great group of 15 institutions with unlimited potential for the future.”

Swofford was part of a news conference of ACC dignitaries at the NASDAQ Market Site in Times Square. Among those in attendance were SU basketball coach Jim Boeheim, Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey, Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher, and Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer. Both the football and basketball coaches were excited for the future. “I don’t think there’s ever been a league, basketball wise, with this much potential.”

Another thing on the minds of those in attendance was the sheer size of the league. “With the addition of Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, and Louisville next year, our league will have the biggest geographic footprint of any league.” Swofford said.

SU’s first ACC game, October 5 against Clemson, can’t get here soon enough.
