The No. 1 Syracuse women’s lacrosse team plays its final game of the regular season against the No. 5 Boston College Eagles tonight at 7 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium. Yet, stakes are high for the Orange, and they look to end their season with a perfect 16-0 record.
Though the Orange have kept their stance at number one for a month, to the day, it doesn’t seem like they will be letting off steam anytime soon as they look to continue that title after tonight’s game. Their last game against reigning champion North Carolina proved that Syracuse is more than capable of remaining perfect, as they persevered and came out on top winning 14-12. They have an even better chance of winning if they utilize their star players like the Tyrrell sisters, Emma Ward, and others.
Last game against the Tarheels, Meaghan Tyrrell surpassed head coach Kayla Treanor in career points. She now sits at 394. If she finishes this game with three more points, she will surpass Katie Rowan who currently sits at number one in career points, giving Meaghan Tyrrell the new title as #1 on Syracuse’s career leader list.
While Tyrrell is climbing up SU program leader boards, Boston College also has a player doing the same. The Eagle’s Jenn Medjid is one of four players in BC history to achieve 300 career points. This game will have fans keeping an eye out for Tyrrell and Medjid as they are both weapons on each offensive end.
Though Syracuse has not lost a game yet, Boston College is still a good team and will put up a good fight. With a 12-3 record, the Eagles have won their last six games. One element that Syracuse will have to look out for is the Eagles draw controls. Last game against Virginia, Boston College went 21 for 38 in draws, whereas Syracuse was just 12 for 30 against UNC. When the Orange do get the draw, they are very good at capitalizing on it. Yet, it was Syracuse’s Delaney Sweitzer who helped prevent goals after the lost draws in their last game. She had 15 saves against UNC, tying her career high.
The Orange go into this game at 8-0 in ACC play, while the Eagles are 7-1. That means whoever wins tonight takes the conference’s regular season title. The conference tournament is next week in North Carolina.
