Entering Sunday’s contest, things looked pretty even between Syracuse women’s basketball (7-11, 1-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) and Boston College (12-8, 3-4 ACC). Both teams entered the contest inside the bottom half of conference standings and have struggled for consistent form. Then, the Eagles found a spark and destroyed the Orange 92-51. For SU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack, the result is her worst since coming to the Hill and could only be described in one way.
“(It was) a good old fashioned ass whooping,” Legette-Jack said. “From the start to the finish.”
Everything is dropping from beyond the arc for @BC_WBB. Guard Kaylah Ivey got in on the three-point action.@GiffMD was on the mic for the redshirt senior's trey ball.

The game certainly did not start in the Orange’s favor. Boston College ended the first quarter with a 32-9 lead and shot nearly 65% from the field. On the other end of the floor, Syracuse could only muster three made shots the entire period. This frame set the tone for the rest of the game, as BC outshot Syracuse by over 20 percent. A part of the reason why, according to Legette-Jack, was the absence of guard Georgia Wooley, who was out with an illness.
“Finding out Georgia (Wooley) wasn’t playing at the start of the game didn’t help our situation,” Legette-Jack explained. “We have a system that we run and Georgia (Wooley) is a focal part of that system. Not playing at the last second kind of stifled us a little bit.”
Even with Wooley, the Eagles still might have been too much. In transition, Boston College had 23 fastbreak points while Syracuse had zero. In the paint, BC outscored SU by nearly 30 points, which was especially frustrating for Legette-Jack.
“Our bigs didn’t come to play,” Legette-Jack said. “We’re bigger than them, but they were actually stronger than us. That says a little bit about our weight room, and a little bit about our heart. We’re going to have to get better.”
Things don’t get any easier for Legette-Jack’s squad. The Orange host No. 21 North Carolina State (14-4, 6-1 ACC) on Thursday. The Wolfpack are yet to lose to unranked opposition this season. Tip off is set for 6 pm.
