After three quarters it looked like 2nd-ranked Syracuse (3-0, 0-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference) was set up for a tight finish against 16th-ranked Towson (0-2, 0-0 in Colonial Athletic Association). However, the Orange outscored the Tigers 7-0 in the final frame to cruise to an 18-7 win.
Once again, SU’s offense was firing on all cylinders. The Orange have scored almost 20 goals per game this season. A major reason for Monday’s success was the dominance at the faceoff dot. Sophomore John Mullen won 17 of 25 faceoffs.
“It was one of his best performances in the fact that he settled down and let us play with pace,” SU head coach Gary Gait said.“He allowed us to control the ball.”

The faceoff success allowed Syracuse to have a diverse scoring attack. Michael Leo, Luke Rhoa, Finn Thomson, and Owen Hiltz all finished Monday’s game with a hat trick.
“It doesn’t matter who's out there,” SU head coach Gary Gait said. “They're moving the ball until we find a good open-quality shot.”

Syracuse also had eight different players get on the scoresheet. In last week's win over Vermont, the Orange had six different goal scorers. SU has scored a total of 55 goals in three games which is the most in the country.
Next up for Syracuse is a top-ten showdown with No.6 Maryland in College Park on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 pm. WAER’s coverage starts at 1:30 with McClurg Remodeling Countdown to Faceoff.
